Gene Haas reportedly interested in owning a Formula 1 team UPDATE: Haas confirms
Could the expansion of Gene Haas' racing ownership grow to include Formula 1?
German website Auto Motor Sport reports that Haas is one of three candidates to become a Formula 1 team owner in 2015. The sanctioning body accepted applications for new team ownership at the end of 2013.

The most interesting candidate is certainly Gene Haas. The 62-year-old Californian has already been successful in motor sport operates. It operates since 2002 a Nascar team, most recently in fusion with superstar Tony Stewart. Gene Haas is financially prepared. He is not only the world's largest manufacturer of CNC machines, but has the Windshear wind tunnel in Concord, North Carolina, also one of the best wind tunnels in the world. In December, Ferrari officials said that Ferrari had been contacted by a US bidder.
Haas confirmed his interest in a statement on Thursday.
"We have responded to the FIA's 'call for expression of interest' regarding a Formula One entry on behalf of Haas Racing Development,?? Haas said. ?We respect the FIA's evaluation process and will share more details in the coming weeks."
Stewart-Haas Racing was formed from the former Haas CNC team in 2009 when Haas gave 50 percent of the team to Tony Stewart. SHR operated as a two-car team through the 2011 season. Danica Patrick drove for the team full-time in 2013 and with the addition of Kurt Busch for 2014, Stewart-Haas is at four teams. That's the NASCAR limit.
US F1 was the last attempt by an American-based team to enter Formula 1. During its infancy, the team had big plans. Heck, it even went after Kyle Busch in 2009. At least publicly, anyway.
The US F1 attempted entry officially went under in 2010. The team fired all of its employees and had $3.5 million in debt. It didn't even make a car.
American interest would probably increase from an entry into the series, especially with the success of the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Tex. There's a possible second grand prix in the United States too -- The Grand Prix of America in New Jersey -- but spats over contracts have made that race's possible appearance on a future F1 schedule tenuous at best.

Well that didn?t take long. Just a few weeks after BMW announced it was going to apply its Individual treatment to the new 4 Series Coupe and Convertible, it has now announced that the Gran Coupe model will be available with the same custom touch.
Aside from the asinine idea that the freshly made 4 Series is available in a Gran Coupe four-door when the model was created specifically to be a coupe only, the Individual program does make the new 4 a very desirable car. Some of the choices available with the Individual include multiple paint options, bespoke 19-inch alloy wheels, Ash Grain White dash trim, leather covered dash and Merino leather for the seats. The leather is available in several colors with contrast piping and filigree stitching. The seat color in our photos here is Nutmeg.

Additions of Wurth and Alliance round out 2014 sponsorship for Brad Keselowski
When Team Penske announced in October that Brad Keselowski and sponsor Miller Lite had inked contract extensions, there was an interesting caveat. Miller, which sponsored a full season in 2013, was dropping back to 24 races at team owner Roger Penske's request.
Penske wanted to sell the available 12 races to another company. Actually, make that companies.
The team announced Wednesday that Wurth, a previous Penske associate sponsor, would sponsor Keselowski for four races in 2014. That compliments Tuesday's announcement that Alliance Truck Parts -- the company that was Sam Hornish's primary sponsor in the Nationwide Series in 2013 -- would be on Keselowski's car for eight races.
The first race for Alliance will be at Phoenix on March 2, the second race of the season. Wurth will appear on the 2012 Sprint Cup champion's car for the first time at California on March 23.
Wurth also appeared on the hood of Hornish's Nationwide car last season. However, Team Penske parted ways with Hornish after the season. Hornish, who finished second in the Nationwide points standings to Austin Dillon in 2013, is set to drive part-time in the series for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2014.
After his title run in 2012, Keselowski missed the Chase in 2013. He was winless until the October Charlotte race, where he ran away from Kasey Kahne over the race's final laps for his only win of the season.

NAPA?s back in NASCAR, will sponsor Chase Elliott in Nationwide Series
NAPA's hiatus from NASCAR didn't really become one at all.
After announcing that it was leaving Michael Waltrip Racing at the end of the season because of the race manipulation allegations at Richmond, the auto parts company will sponsor Chase Elliott full-time in the Nationwide Series in 2014.
Elliott will drive the No. 9 for JR Motorsports.
?This is the opportunity of a lifetime,? Elliott said in a release. ?My family and I are still trying to believe it all. I couldn?t ask to be partnered with anyone better than Dale Jr., Kelley and Mr. Hendrick, along with all of the people at their organizations who have put in countless hours to pull this together.
?Working with NAPA will be an honor. They?ve had a tremendous impact in NASCAR, and I?m proud to represent their brand, on and off the track, to race fans. I?m extremely pumped to get to work in 2014 with that first trip to Daytona and make the most of this opportunity.?
Elliott, the son of Bill Elliott, was signed by Hendrick Motorsports as a developmental driver in 2011. He won the Camping World Truck Series race at MoSport in August when he had contact with Ty Dillon on the final corner.
His move to the Nationwide Series full-time means that JR Motorsports will field three cars in 2014. In addition to Elliott, JR Motorsports will have Regan Smith driving full-time and a car that's shared by Kevin Harvick and others. Elliott will also be keeping the No. 9 in the family. Bill drove that number for much of Sprint Cup Series career with Harry Melling and Ray Evernham.
