Paul Menard penalized 25 points; crew chief Slugger Labbe fined $100,000
Paul Menard and the Richard Childress Racing No. 27 team was docked 25 points for infractions found in post-race inspection at Michigan, and crew chief Slugger Labbe was fined $100,000 and suspended until October 3 for frame rail modifications.
According to the release from NASCAR, "The No. 27 team was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4K (race equipment that has been previously certified or previously approved by NASCAR for use in an event, pursuant to sub-section 8-12, has been altered, modified, repaired or changed in any manner. Intentionally modifying frame rails for the purpose of deceiving NASCAR's inspection gauges) of the 2012 NASCAR Rule Book."
Menard finished 9th at Michigan. The penalty dropped him from 15th to 16th in the points standings.
Car chief Craig Smokstad and crew member Grant Hutchens were also suspended until October 3 and both he and Labbe are on probation until the end of the year. Childress said that he was going to appeal the penalties, so until the appeals process is complete, Labbe will be on top of the pit box.

Kyle Busch?s championship hopes end on a blown pit call
RICHMOND, Va. - The official on pit road standing beside Kyle Busch's right rear wheel lifted his hand, signaling a violation, and effectively ended the last of the No. 18 M&M's Toyota's 2012 championship hopes.
A lug nut sat there beside the wheel, a lone lug nut, barely larger than a quarter. But the precious time needed to get that lug nut properly screwed onto the car, combined with a curious don't-pit call by crew chief Dave Rogers during the final, brief rain delay, killed any chance that Kyle Busch had of holding off Jeff Gordon and securing a spot in the 2012 Chase.
It wasn't supposed to be this hard. Busch brought a 12-point lead and unquestioned Richmond dominance into the Federated Auto Parts 400, and every indication early in the race was that he'd waltz right into the Chase and, from there, do some damage to the rest of the field in pursuit of his first championship.
Instead, Busch's late-season swoon continues for yet another year. His early-race domination had faded by the time of the long red flag pause at lap 152, and Rogers' decision to keep Busch out on the last rain caution, perhaps in a gamble that the rain would halt the race there, ended up destroying Busch's chances at catching Gordon. By the time Busch did pit, he was well back in the field, a victim of older tires.
The decision may also have an impact on Rogers' future at Joe Gibbs Racing. Busch and Rogers haven't clicked the way anyone had hoped, and this error, for which Rogers took responsibility, is the kind of choice from which a crew chief may not recover. Mike Ford had a similar pit miscue in Phoenix in 2010 that contributed to Denny Hamlin's championship loss, and Hamlin's relationship with Ford never recovered.
Still, Gibbs gave his support: "We love Dave Rogers," he said, according to the AP. "I think he's one of the brightest and the best. If we have a tough night, we all have a tough night together."
On Saturday night, as Busch climbed from the car after the race, team owner Joe Gibbs leaned in close and said, "Handle [defeat] the right way." Busch did so by giving a two-question, 20-word interview.
"We missed," he said. "That's it. Plain and simple."
Unfortunately it's not. When perhaps the most talented driver in the sport fails yet again to make any kind of dent in the championship picture, it's never "plain and simple." But for Busch and Gibbs, that's a problem that will have to wait until at least 2013 for a solution.

2012 Chase Prospects: From zero (wins) to hero for Martin Truex Jr.?
At times, it's looked like Martin Truex Jr. has been poised to grab his first win for Michael Waltrip Racing. But, alas, it hasn't been meant to be, whether it was at Kansas when the handling on his car disappeared when the sun came out or at Atlanta, when Jamie McMurray blew a tire with just four laps to go, erasing Truex's large lead.
And while he's 0-fer this season, those strong performances are the main reason he's in this year's Chase for the first time since he signed on with MWR. In 26 races, he has 14 top 10s.
The last two weekends, Truex has lamented his team's bad luck that's prevented them from reaching victory lane. But let's be honest; that luck will have to change rather quickly if Truex is to be a strong contender in the Chase. Will it?
Best Chase track: If you take away a crash at Talladega, Truex's lowest finish at a Chase track in 2012 is 12th. We'll go with Dover, the site of his only Sprint Cup Series win and where he finished seventh in June.
Worst Chase track: By average finish, it's Talladega and Kansas. But Talladega is a crapshoot and Kansas is a completely new track. Next up on the list would be Martinsville, but Truex finished fifth there earlier this season.
NB's prediction: 11th. Much like Brad Keselowski last year, given the improvement at Michael Waltrip Racing, using past history may not be the best guide to how Truex will perform in the Chase. But that said, the recent history doesn't have any wins either. Truex has been running well enough to win, however, and if that luck turns, he's the perfect candidate to be this year's Tony Stewart.

VIDEO: Cars get airborne in first corner at Spa F1 race
Romain Grosjean's car catapulted over two others, including points leader Fernando Alonso, as the field entered the first turn of Sunday's Formula 1 Bengian Grand Prix at Spa.
In the series' first race in 35 days, Grosjean initially triggered the crash as he moved to the right, making contact with Lewis Hamilton as he attempted to get in front of him. After the contact, Hamilton's car immediately snapped to the left, and his car -- with the front wheels off the ground -- pushed Grosjean's into the field in front of them braking for the first turn.
Grosjean's car then launched over Sergio Perez and Alonso, and both Alonso and Hamilton also got airtime in the melee. Thankfully, no one was hurt. As you can see from the video above, Grosjean's car flew right in front of Alonso's cockpit. Because of the crash, Grosjean has been suspended for next week's race at Monza. Jenson Button won Sunday's race.

Porsche 911/997 by Anibal Automotive Design
Posted on 09.10.2012 12:00 by Simona |
Everyone seems to want to get their hands on a Porsche model, whether it’s to simply own one or to tune the heck out of it. Anibal Automotive Design from Montreal are a prime example of this as they have just released a tuning package based on the previous generation Porsche 911.
The tuning package starts off on the exterior with a body kit that strips away the stock pack panels and replaces them with new panels made of either fiberglass or in carbon fiber, depending on the customer’s wishes. Then, Anibal added a new set of wheels, sized 920 at the front and 1120 at the rear. For the interior, the tuner opted to only improve the quality of the materials used.
Last, but not least, we have the six cylinder engine upgrades. Yep, there’s a choice of two upgrades, beginning with a X51 powerkit that will increase the power output to 381 HP. The second option adds on a PTC turbo version which can upgrade the power level to anywhere between 420 to 550 HP.
Pricing for the Porsche 911/997 by Anibal Automotive Design hasn’t been released, but we’re willing to bet that the money spent will be well worth it. This doesn’t seem to be a bad gig for someone looking to revamp their automotive prowess, without breaking the bank on a new 911.

Andrea Iannone Laps Mugello Faster Than Rossi In Three-Day Test
After two days mostly lost to rain, Andrea Iannone finally got to spend some serious time on board the factory Ducati at Mugello, as the Italian completed a three-day test generally regarded as an audition for Ducati Junior team to be run by Pramac in 2013. Iannone made good use of his time, eventually lapping the iconic Italian circuit in 1'48.3, a time that would have been fast enough to qualify him in 10th place on the grid for this year's race, and two tenths faster than Valentino Rossi's qualifying time. Though the time was impressive, it was still some way off the time set by Nicky Hayden, the Factory Ducati man posting a time of 1'47.671 during qualifying for the Mugello race. But Hayden was not the fastest Ducati at Mugello back in July: Hector Barbera lapped in 1'47.565, a quarter of a second off the pole time set by Dani Pedrosa. But for Iannone to be lapping within a second of the pole on just his first proper test with the Ducati team is impressive.
