2013 Phillip Island World Superbike Race 2: A Tight Pack Runs Away
Carlos Checa was unable to start race two, moving Eugene Laverty into pole position and promoting Tom Sykes to the front row. Everyone knew how the tyres would work, freeing them up to just get on with the racing.

Darrell Wallace Jr. to run full season in Camping World Truck Series
Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Darrell Wallace Jr. will drive for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Camping World Truck Series in 2013.
Wallace, 19, will be the fourth African-American to run a full season in a NASCAR National Series after Wendell Scott (who went to victory lane at Jacksonville in 1963 in what was then the NASCAR Grand National Series), Willy T. Ribbs and Bill Lester. Wallace is a graduate of NASCAR's Drive for Diversity program, and made four NASCAR Nationwide Series starts for JGR in 2012.
He'll drive the No. 54 truck for KBM while still under contract with JGR. Busch will also run 10 Truck Series races this year in another KBM truck.
In his four starts last season, Wallace had three top 10s and started on the pole at Dover in the fall before finishing 12th. In three seasons in NASCAR's K&N Pro Series East, Wallace has six wins and finished second in the standings in 2011.
As evidenced by his Nationwide statistics, Wallace more than held his own in his step up to NASCAR's national stage in 2012 and it may be just a matter of time before he joins Scott as a winner in a NASCAR national series race.

Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
It looks like Chevy decided that the new Corvette Stingray is going to be a little bit expensive for its usual customers, so, starting in the 2015 model year, a "low-cost" Corvette is going to be added to its lineup. First details on this new version suggest it will drop the new Stingray badge and will use the name Corvette Coupe to distinguish itself.
The Stingray is powered by an all-new 6.2-liter V-8 engine, but this upcoming version is rumored to house the all-new, all-aluminum 5.3-liter V-8 engine ? the same used in the new General Motor trucks, like the 2014 Sierra. This engine will likely produce just under 400 horsepower.
Many rumors pointed toward this less-expensive `Vette using a boosted V-6 engine, but GM just couldn?t get it to produce the fuel economy numbers that it needed.
Also, when compared to the Stingray version, this new coupe model will feature a different front fascia, front fender and rear diffuser to further distinguish it from the Stingray models.
Now keep in mind that ?low cost? is a relative term and in this case, we are likely talking somewhere just shy of $50K.

Donovan McNabb tweets kudos to Danica Patrick for winning the Daytona 500 a week early
Hey Donovan, I'm sure Danica appreciates the sentiment, but you got your facts mixed up.
The former NFL quarterback sent his congratulations to Danica Patrick after she won the pole for the Daytona 500 on Sunday but instead of congratulating her for that achievement, he was a week ahead of himself.
Congrats to the Illinois native Danica Patrick on her win today. The first female to win in a big race with this magnitude. Big win

And outside of the fact that McNabb got his Danica Patrick accomplishments mixed up, does anyone else think that tweet looks like it came straight out of translating software with phrases like "the Illinois native Danica Patrick" and "win in a big race with this magnitude"? Or is that just us?
McNabb played 11 seasons with the Eagles and then finished his career with the Vikings and Redskins. In 2008, McNabb famously admitted that he didn't know that a regular season NFL game could end in a tie after his Eagles tied the Bengals. He now works for NFL Network.

2013 Season Preview: No. 5 Tony Stewart
As we count down to the 2013 Daytona 500, we're also counting down how we think the Chase will play out this season as predicted by Nick Bromberg, Jay Busbee, Jay Hart and Geoffrey Miller. So sit back, relax, and watch the 2013 Chase unfold before your very eyes. Though you should be warned, we picked Carl Edwards to win last year.
2012 Finish: 9th. 3 wins (Las Vegas, California, Daytona)
2013 Predictions:
Bromberg: 6th
Busbee: 10th
Hart: 3rd
Miller: 5th
Crew Chief: Steve Addington
When we last saw Stewart: He was a nonfactor in the Chase. After three wins and 10 top 10s in the season's first 18 races, Stewart had six top 10s and no wins in the final 18. And yeah, that's an issue when the final 10 races of the year are the Chase. Though as we mused in Stewart's season in review, it's fair to wonder what his championship bid would had looked like had he won at Talladega instead of crashing.
Big Question for 2013: Will the Stewartacoaster be a little less up and down this season? When he was good, he was good. When he was bad, he was bad. While Greg Biffle stayed near the top of the points standings in the regular season by virtue of lead lap finishes, Stewart finished off the lead lap in nine of the season's first 26 races. Those three wins really helped.
Track most likely to win at: Can we say Daytona in any other race outside of the Daytona 500?
Track most likely to require a miracle to win at: Dover or Bristol. Concrete has not been Smoke's friend. His finishes in the four races at the two tracks last year: 14th, 20th, 25th and 27th.
How Stewart could win the Chase: You saw the blueprint just two years ago. Stewart is capable of a hot streak at any point and if he catches one again in the fall, he's going to be a title threat. And if he can add some consistency, it may not take five wins plus a tiebreak this time.
How Stewart couldn't: The rollercoaster doesn't stop. In last year's Chase, Stewart finished in the top 10 four times. His other finishes were 13th, 17th, 19th, 20th, 22nd and 27th. Consistency is the key here. And if Stewart doesn't regain it, even this prediction of fifth place may be overreaching.

2013 WSBK Calendar Shake Up: Istanbul To Replace Silverstone, TBA Round Scrapped?
Despite the fact that the World Superbike series kicks off on Sunday, the provisional calendar is still very much in a state of flux. Rumors emanating from the WSBK paddock, gathered at Phillip Island for the 2013 season opener, suggest that major changes could stilll take place to the calendar. The biggest change is that the UK round, set for Silverstone on 4th August, could be dropped altogether, and replaced with a round in Turkey, at the spectacular Istanbul Park Circuit in mid-September.
The rumors, reported by German-language website Speedweek and confirmed by other WSBK sources, state that Silverstone is to be dropped because the circuit cannot afford to pay the sanctioning fee previously agreed with Infront, and now being demanded by Dorna. Crowd numbers at Silverstone for World Superbikes were always low, in part because the flat nature of the circuit made viewing difficult, and in part due to relatively high ticket prices, which meant that ticket sales did not generate sufficient revenue to cover the circuit's costs.

Have you noticed that for the past few episodes of his show, Jay Leno focused on classic cars? If last time he brought to his garage a custom-built 1971 Datsun 510, on this latest episode, Leno turned his attention to a 1951 Kaiser Drag’n. Along with Leno you will see industrial designer Keith Charvonia who need more than eight years to develop this amazing restoration and modification.
This heavily modified and customized Kaiser has received a B-body Caprice chassis and the Caprice also donated the engine. Additionally, the exterior kit makes it look even cooler, plus that blue exterior paint seems to fit just perfectly!

Clint (Bowyer) has Clint (Eastwood) on his new helmet

Before testing (finally) kicked off at Charlotte Motor Speedway after the rain subsided and the track was dry, Clint Bowyer tweeted a picture of his new helmet with Clint Eastwood on the back of it. It's pretty freaking awesome.
Now, should we give Clint Bowyer a new nickname? "Blondie" could work given his hair color. "Man with No Name" really wouldn't work because then we'd be calling a man with a name "Man with No Name", and that takes more effort than just saying "Clint Bowyer." Thoughts?
And because you know that we're not averse to boring, tired and cliche jokes, we have to wonder if Clint Bowyer will now talk to his empty driver's seat before every race now.
Kevin Harvick says fatherhood hasn?t dulled his edge on the track
On Thursday at Media Day, Kevin Harvick, a father since July, shared some of his perspective on how fatherhood has ? and, for racing purposes, hasn't ? changed him.
"I think having my son has really helped keep a new balance on life that you didn't really understand until you had a child," he said. "For me, I become so emotional and so attached to what happens on the racetrack, if it's going good, if it's going bad. Now you have this way of coming home and letting all those things go for two or three days, then you come back to the track and you hadn't thought about it all week and you're really focused at being at the racetrack."

But when something new comes into an already-full life, something else has to go. For Harvick, the decision to shutter his truck team at the end of the 2011 season was a necessary move. "Couldn't be dad, team owner and driver on Sunday and be successful, probably at any of them," he said. "We had to eliminate one. That new balance adds to your life, lets you be more focused and hopefully more competitive on the weekends."
2012 was a disappointment for Harvick; while he made the Chase, he never got out of the lower-top-10 range, and his lone win came in the season's penultimate race in Phoenix. He's a lame duck this year at Richard Childress Racing as he prepares to move to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014.
The odds on lame-duck drivers having success aren't good; everyone's got an eye on next year. But if Harvick does fall short this season, at least he won't be blaming his kid. That's good news.
