2013 WSBK Calendar Shake Up: Istanbul To Replace Silverstone, TBA Round Scrapped?
Despite the fact that the World Superbike series kicks off on Sunday, the provisional calendar is still very much in a state of flux. Rumors emanating from the WSBK paddock, gathered at Phillip Island for the 2013 season opener, suggest that major changes could stilll take place to the calendar. The biggest change is that the UK round, set for Silverstone on 4th August, could be dropped altogether, and replaced with a round in Turkey, at the spectacular Istanbul Park Circuit in mid-September.
The rumors, reported by German-language website Speedweek and confirmed by other WSBK sources, state that Silverstone is to be dropped because the circuit cannot afford to pay the sanctioning fee previously agreed with Infront, and now being demanded by Dorna. Crowd numbers at Silverstone for World Superbikes were always low, in part because the flat nature of the circuit made viewing difficult, and in part due to relatively high ticket prices, which meant that ticket sales did not generate sufficient revenue to cover the circuit's costs.

Have you noticed that for the past few episodes of his show, Jay Leno focused on classic cars? If last time he brought to his garage a custom-built 1971 Datsun 510, on this latest episode, Leno turned his attention to a 1951 Kaiser Drag’n. Along with Leno you will see industrial designer Keith Charvonia who need more than eight years to develop this amazing restoration and modification.
This heavily modified and customized Kaiser has received a B-body Caprice chassis and the Caprice also donated the engine. Additionally, the exterior kit makes it look even cooler, plus that blue exterior paint seems to fit just perfectly!

Clint (Bowyer) has Clint (Eastwood) on his new helmet

Before testing (finally) kicked off at Charlotte Motor Speedway after the rain subsided and the track was dry, Clint Bowyer tweeted a picture of his new helmet with Clint Eastwood on the back of it. It's pretty freaking awesome.
Now, should we give Clint Bowyer a new nickname? "Blondie" could work given his hair color. "Man with No Name" really wouldn't work because then we'd be calling a man with a name "Man with No Name", and that takes more effort than just saying "Clint Bowyer." Thoughts?
And because you know that we're not averse to boring, tired and cliche jokes, we have to wonder if Clint Bowyer will now talk to his empty driver's seat before every race now.
Kevin Harvick says fatherhood hasn?t dulled his edge on the track
On Thursday at Media Day, Kevin Harvick, a father since July, shared some of his perspective on how fatherhood has ? and, for racing purposes, hasn't ? changed him.
"I think having my son has really helped keep a new balance on life that you didn't really understand until you had a child," he said. "For me, I become so emotional and so attached to what happens on the racetrack, if it's going good, if it's going bad. Now you have this way of coming home and letting all those things go for two or three days, then you come back to the track and you hadn't thought about it all week and you're really focused at being at the racetrack."

But when something new comes into an already-full life, something else has to go. For Harvick, the decision to shutter his truck team at the end of the 2011 season was a necessary move. "Couldn't be dad, team owner and driver on Sunday and be successful, probably at any of them," he said. "We had to eliminate one. That new balance adds to your life, lets you be more focused and hopefully more competitive on the weekends."
2012 was a disappointment for Harvick; while he made the Chase, he never got out of the lower-top-10 range, and his lone win came in the season's penultimate race in Phoenix. He's a lame duck this year at Richard Childress Racing as he prepares to move to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014.
The odds on lame-duck drivers having success aren't good; everyone's got an eye on next year. But if Harvick does fall short this season, at least he won't be blaming his kid. That's good news.
