F1 Chief Bernie Ecclestone not optimistic about New Jersey race happening next year
Construction is underway for the planned 2013 New Jersey Grand Prix, but that's no guarantee that the event will actually be held next year. Bernie Ecclestone, the man in charge of Formula 1, isn't sure that the circuit will be ready.
When asked about the race happening, Ecclestone said "No. Definitely, no." And then he said this:

"We'll have to see, I need to go and have another look," added Ecclestone. "What I've seen up to now, and what's been going on, I'm not quite as sure as they are. If they can get it completed, and confirm to us it will be done, for sure they'll be on the calendar."
When asked if he was worried that the event will be ready in time, he said: "Yeah. Exactly."
That's not exactly a ringing endorsement about the race's immediate future, even if Sebastian Vettel turned some laps on the projected course, which will have a distinct view of the New York City skyline, recently.
You may remember that there was similar handwringing over the Formula 1 race scheduled to take place in November in Austin -- and Ecclestone even made similar comments about the race last year, saying at one point that he wouldn't bet on the race happening. But, somehow, those worries didn't become reality and the race is a go for the fall. Will we see the same scenario play out for New Jersey?
Did lapped cars cost Ryan Truex a win on Saturday?
During the final laps of Saturday's Nationwide race, eventual race winner Joey Logano was closing in on teammate and race leader Ryan Truex. But while Logano was closing, and closing fast, it wasn't a guarantee that he was going to get to Truex's rear bumper before the checkered flag flew.
And then lapped traffic happened. In turns 1 and 2 on lap 194, Truex, chasing his first Nationwide Series win at the site of his older brother's only Sprint Cup Series win, came up quickly on the cars of Jamie Dick and Brad Teague, who were both multiple laps down and off the pace.
Truex, who was battling a loose racecar over the closing laps, saw his momentum blunted as he threaded in between the lapped cars. That was Logano's chance. He was able to close in on Truex and zipped by, easily taking the win.
Dick finished the race six laps down while Teague was 10 laps down. So, no, they weren't battling for position. Should they have been two-wide at that point in the race? Yes, Truex caught them in an awkward spot, but at what point should lapped cars move over for the race leaders?

Kentucky hopes new plans will mean less traffic headaches Saturday
Quick, what's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of last year's race at Kentucky?
Unless you're a Kyle Busch fan, it's probably not about the race winner. Or David Reutimann, who went from Lucky Dog to a second place finish in the final 58 laps.
It was the traffic getting to the race.
Kentucky Speedway said it sold 107,000 tickets for its inaugural event. However, many of those that had tickets didn't even get to the track. And those that did get to the track spent hours upon hours in that traffic and/or ended up parking a long way away from the track. (The track offered a ticket exchange program for those that didn't make it.)
Last week, the Kentucky State Police unveiled a new plan to help avoid last year's issues, and Kentucky State Police Captain Dean Hayes said he guaranteed that traffic would be better. (However, could it really have been much worse?)
Over $13.5 million has been spent to upgrade the infrastructure around the facility to get people in and out as quickly as possible.
The speedway's share was $10 million to add 20,000 new parking spaces across Kentucky Route 35 from the track. That brings the total number of available spaces to 35,800.
Kentucky invested $3.5 million by adding a lane to the exit ramp from Southbound I-71 to Route 35, widening Route 35 to seven lanes and building a pedestrian tunnel under Route 35 connecting the new parking areas to the track.
A smaller crowd than last year may help as well. The track said that while 8,000 people have taken advantage of the ticket exchange, it had sold less than 100,000 tickets for Saturday night's race.
And while getting to the race may be easier, there may be some unhappy folks after the race. All parking lots will be held for 30 minutes so that pedestrians can get to their cars and the infield parking lots will be held for 90 minutes.

Over the weekend, Hot Wheels’ own version of the double-loop record was attempted by stunt driver Greg Tracy and the one-and-only Tanner Foust. You remember Top Gear Live’s version of the double-loop record attempt last month?
Well, Hot Wheels’ has seen their hand and is raising with their own version. The stunt was attempted at the X-Games in Los Angeles, and true to expectations, the attempt was successfully executed.
Greg Tracy hit the double loop first followed shortly by Tanner Foust. Once both drivers successfully completed their double-loop run, they decided to finish with a flurry and do a pedestrian on-ramp jump much to the delight of the fans in attendance.
Check out the video of the attempt and tell us if this attempt was more impressive than the one Top Gear Live pulled off a month ago.

Lucky Dog: Aric Almirola. There are certain drivers whose names raise an eyebrow when they show up in the top 10 during the race. You assume it's during pit stops or something like that. But lo and behold, Almirola showed up in the top 10 and stayed there, finishing 6th on the day. The missing "E" in his first name is for "excellent."
DNF: Juan Pablo Montoya got caught up in the early-race wreck and was never a factor afterward. Poor guy has done absolutely nothing to kill those "jet dryer" jokes, and probably never will. Unless he hits a bus or something. (That's not a suggestion, JPM.)
